Munnar-Introduction
When one thinks of Kerala, one cannot help but think of the beautiful backwaters and golden sandy beaches. Munnar-Location
Munnar lies at an altitude of 1,520 meter in the Eastern parts of Kerala. The three rivers namely Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala meet at this very pace, thus giving it the name "three rivers" in Tamil.

Munnar-Sites Nearby
About 15kms from Munnar is the Eravikulam National Park. It has elephants, mountain goats, tigers and gaurs besides many other animals. You can also take a tour to Mattupetty, which is 13 kms from Munnar and at an attitude of 1,700 meters. It is popular because of the indo-swiss livestock project (a special dairy farm). The lake Mattupetty is just a little far away from the farm and also worth a closer look. There are also other place you can visit while on a tour to Munnar for instance, the power House Waterfalls, this cascading waterfall is about 18kms from Munnar and is on the way to Thekkady. Top Station, which is not only famous for Neelkurinji plant that blooms once every twelve years, but is also a great vantage point to see the beautiful areas of Tamil Nadu. Another great place is Devikulam, which is 15kms from Munnar. There you can visit the Sita Devi lake, where people go for picnics. One can also fish in the lake and enjoy a nice stroll around the lake.

The nearest airport to Munnar is at Ernakulam, Kochi, which is about 130 kms away.
The nearest Railhead is also at Kochi. There are numerous trains that connect Kochi with other important cities.
One can also get to Munnar by road. From kottayam it is 147 kms, 110 kms from Thekkady, 160 kms from Madurai and 158kms from Thrissur.
Local transportation is no problem in Munnar either. You can hire cabs, take autos or travel in buses. Hired cycles are also quite popular with tourists.

Munnar can be visited at any time of the year. Even in summers the weather here is quite pleasant so one needs to carry light woolens just in case the weather gets a little cold.
