Introduction
One of the most beautiful hill stations in Jammu and Kashmir, Pahalgam is located in the high Himalayas in the Lidder valley. Pahalgam is an ideal destination for hiking, trekking and fishing. Pahalgam is the starting point of the holy Amarnath Yatra that takes place every year.
Location
Pahalgam is located in the state of Jammu and Kashmir and is an altitude of about 2,130 metres above sea level. Pahalgam is 95 kilometres from Srinagar Jammu and Kashmir.
History
Pahalgam and the region around were under the Mughals in the medieval times. Later Pahalgam came under the Kingdom of Kashmir and was ruled by the Hindu rulers before independence.

It is the scenic beauty of Pahalgam that attracts tourists to this beautiful hill resort. The river Lidder flows near Pahalgam and there are many scenic spots around the river that can be visited. Saffron plants in the area present beautiful views. One can see the saffron plant in full bloom in November. Pahalgam is an ideal destination for trekking and hiking. Exploring the scenic beauty on the horseback is an exciting experience in Pahalgam. The snow capped peaks in the backdrop offer wonderful views. 
Adventure
Trekking and hiking are the two adventure sports that you can enjoy when in Pahalgam. The trekking trails lead to some of the exotic locations as you pass through virgin pine forests and mountain streams. The river Lidder offers a wonderful opportunity for fishing. One can sit for hours and enjoy fishing.
Best time to visit
Summer is the best time to visit Pahalgam. However, the place can be visited during the annual Amarnath Yatra in July-August.

Pahalgam is the starting point of the annual Amarnath Yatra to the holy shrine of Amarnath. Amarnath is the holy abode of lord Shiva. Every year thousands of pilgrims visit the holy shrine during the month of July-August. Pahalgam serves as the right base to pilgrims visiting the holy cave of lord Shiva.
How to reach
The nearest airport to Pahalgam is Srinagar, which is about 95 kilometres from Pahalgam. The nearest railway station is Jammu. Pahalgam is well connected by road to other parts of the state.
